Active Directory Accounts at SNU

AD accounts have been created in the migration from Novell to Active Directory.

This will affect your access to: SNU-wifi, Webprinting, Email, MyCourses, Library Databases and Faculty/Staff VPN (NetExtender).

This will NOT affect MySNU, Univisor, NetStorage or F&G Drives. Those passwords will remain the same.

Go to help.snu.edu for more information!

Google Mail Hacked… but not really.

This story from the Washington Post yesterday is an important note for security.  To summarize, some people who use GMail apparently responded to emails asking for their password, and then someone gained access to their accounts.

Everyone should remember that you should NEVER EVER EVER put ANY password in an email.  We will never ask you to confirm your account, and no one should ever ask you to confirm private information through email.

If you ever have any questions about whether something in your email or on your computer is legitimate, please call or email the help desk before you click through a link or respond.  We would much rather answer your questions than help you clean up a mess!

Google App Icon

If you would like a desktop “icon” for your SNU Gmail account, you can install a Google App that will do this.

First, you need to install the Google Chrome browser found at http://www.google.com/chrome

You don’t need to make it the default browser since you may only want to use it for your email.

After you have installed Chrome, click on the following link and install the SNU Google Email App:
http://dl.google.com/tag/s/ap=mail.snu.edu/googlewebapps/en/googleappsstandalonesetuptagged.exe

You will find an icon on your desktop that looks like a red & white envelop and says “mail.snu.edu Email”. Click on this and you can login to your email and stay logged in. You can copy the icon to your taskbar if you like.

***There is a Beta release of Google Chrome for Mac OS X 10.5 or later, Intel only. If you use a Mac and want to try it, the link is here:
